Geography of Pain

You taught me the
geography of pain
You led me through
the enchanted deserts of longing,
Through a ghostly landscape
of strangled hopes
Speeding past the accusing
milestones of dead yesterdays
You pointed out the bleak
landmarks of childhood’s griefs
You stood beside me
Below the towering cliffs
of ‘Impossible’
And revealed to me
the meaning of desolation,
The agony of the final farewell.
I explored with you the
frontiers of loneliness
And embraced the deadly
intoxication of hopeless dreams
You were my guide through
the atlas of pain
I remember.
I wish I could forget.
